Global coffee prices dipped slightly this month, down about 2.3% from the prior month's average. If you've been watching the number on our Market page move, here's the honest, unhyped version of what that means.
Coffee is priced as a global commodity, and that price swings for a handful of recurring reasons: weather in the major growing regions (particularly Brazil and Vietnam, which together produce the bulk of the world's supply), currency exchange rates in producing countries, shipping and logistics costs, and shifts in global demand. A single month's move rarely tells you which of these is driving it — it usually takes a few months of data to see a real trend versus normal noise.
Here's the part that matters more to you: our pricing to you doesn't chase this number up and down. What we pay our partner farms in Nicaragua and Costa Rica is set by direct relationships, not by the daily churn of a commodities exchange thousands of miles from the farm. That's the actual point of direct trade — the grower isn't at the mercy of a price swing they have no visibility into, and neither are you.
